What you observe with VMware may actually be a symptom of more serious pastr of a lazy hook in a different unrelated program. Note that this is a known issue – there’s an issued with shared files not working in a Linux VM, and it seems similar components of that don’t work with VMware at this time.

I noticed this problem has to do with me using a different window manager. On the Name the Shared Folder screen, Click Browse to select the location of the shared folder on the host operating system.
